The Scope 3 Procurement Training makes headway at the Scope 3 Strategy Days
Equipoise returns to the Scope 3 Strategy Days
It’s already been a year since Equipoise attended the Scope 3 Strategy Days 2024! That was when we first organised a workshop to discuss the potential for Scope 3 Peer Group members to collaborate and develop a Scope 3 Procurement Training. We’ve made a lot of progress since then.
Hosting our first workshop for the Scope 3 Procurement Training initiative
Following last year's workshop, we raised funds from 9 organisations (Amazon, AstraZeneca, Emitwise, Environmental Defense Fund, Essity, GSK, Novonesis, Supplier Leadership on Climate Transition, and Takeda) to launch the training initiative. We also had 250 Peer Group members volunteer their expertise and collaborate to develop the training.
Since then, we’ve also held 5 out of our 7 monthly Working Group meetings, where Peer Group members come together to define the training specification, draft the learning pathway, and review collated training materials. What started as an idea is now fully in motion!
Hosting a panel with Scope 3 Procurement Training funders
One of our highlights from the Scope 3 Strategy Days 2025 was to host a panel with some of our brilliant funders to share more about the Scope 3 Procurement Training initiative and provide an update on our progress.

We had Emelissa Baluyot Herness from Amazon, Robert Williams from AstraZeneca, Sruthi Surendran from Novonesis, and Nicole Anderson Brodin from Essity take the stage to share why they got involved in the initiative.
We also got to hear about their best practices for educating procurement professionals on Scope 3 emissions, how they’ve gone about training category managers so far, and what they’re excited to see come out of the initiative.
Leading breakout sessions with Scope 3 Peer Group members
After the panel, we continued our workshop with insightful breakout sessions led by Christine Richards and Kelly Dong from Guidehouse, Mat Langley from Green Wave Advisory, Ian Hind Escolano from Emitwise, as well as John Watt, Patrick Stirling and Luke Abbott from Equipoise.

We had 100 people attend these workshops, where we discussed how to best train suppliers, integrate free carbon accounting tools, leverage Gen AI, overcome Scope 3 emissions challenges, and lead strategies to drive emissions reductions in value chains.
The insights and feedback we gathered from the group discussions will further inform the creation of training material. We’re beyond excited to bring the training to Scope 3 Peer Group members and accelerate decarbonisation through the power of sustainable procurement.
Filming customer testimonials and training materials
When you are at an event with procurement and sustainability leaders responsible for over $3.5 trillion in corporate spend, you make the most of it. That’s why we took the opportunity to get people in front of the camera.
Over the three days, we set up our very own recording studio and filmed client and partner testimonials from organisations such as CERN, The Climate Choice and the Scope 3 Peer Group. We also got a headstart on creating training materials by recording educational content with 17 procurement and sustainability leaders.
Key themes for procurement and sustainability leaders
On Day 2 of the Scope 3 Strategy Days, we explored how to best drive Scope 3 decarbonisation, the challenges organisations face, and the role Scope 3 tools can play on the road to Net Zero. Our main takeaways were:
Collaboration is the cornerstone: Industry-level and cross-industry collaboration are prerequisites for alignment on how to best reduce emissions in value chains and ensure that efforts aren’t siloed or unnecessarily duplicated.
Progress is needed despite politics: While global political swings impact climate legislation and present hurdles for corporate decarbonisation, drastic Scope 3 emissions reductions are required to avoid the worst effects of climate change.
Suppliers require support: To move the needle on Scope 3 emissions, suppliers must receive guidance on how to set ambitious targets and be supported to implement emission reduction initiatives in their operations and own supply chains.
Hosting our Duckpin Bowling side event
After the Day 2 sessions and a hard day’s work, Equipoise hired 8 Duckpin Bowling lanes at Brewdog Waterloo to unwind with Scope 3 Strategy Day attendees. We were glad to see familiar faces and make new connections. Given the number of splits we hit, it’s a good thing we specialise in sustainable procurement and not bowling!

The next steps for the Scope 3 Procurement Training
After 3 days of conversations with peers, partners, and customers, we left the event feeling optimistic about corporate decarbonisation efforts. We would like to thank Oliver Hurrey and Rhona Ross for organising such a brilliant event.
Attending sessions on Day 2 of the Scope 3 Strategy Days
During the Scope 3 Strategy Days 2025, we also sensed a lot of excitement about the Scope 3 Procurement Training. From encouraging words from our funders to peers actively contributing to its development, this initiative is making headway.
Through this training, Equipoise is on a mission to pioneer the shift towards sustainable value chains. With the amount of progress we’ve already made in a year with our funders and collaborators, we can’t wait to share with you the next steps for the Scope 3 Procurement Training. We expect to launch the training in the fall of 2025. More on that soon!
